Push Factors
Many Chinese migrated to New Zealand during the 1980s-1990s mainly because of the pollution and dirty environment in their home country. Also because of the overpopulation which was a huge problem in China, the government imposed a 'One Child Policy' which meant that families wanting to have more than one child had to pay 'economic penalties' and be denied education and healthcare benefits. Many Chinese also migrated to New Zealand to seek a better life for their families with the education and benefits that the New Zealand government offered unlike the Chinese government.
