Intervening Obstacles
The main problem faced by Chinese migrants to New Zealand was the language barrier and foreign culture. The Chinese had to overcome moving to a whole new country and adapting to the new culture of New Zealand which as very different to the Chinese. The Chinese also face racism and discrimination when they arrived. An example of this is the 'anti-immigration' policy passed by the New Zealand First Party which looked for skilled immigrants. Also many Chinese migrants had to work very hard to gain the required 'points' to meet the immigration rules.
